Charlotte Herentrey has been a PhD researcher at the Institute of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Bern since November 2025. As part of the SNSF-funded project "Feeling Left-Behind: How lack of social recognition for one's group influences political information usage and effects", she examines how feeling that one's social group is overlooked or devalued shapes emotional responses to politics and influences whether individuals seek out, engage with, or withdraw from political information.

She holds a Master's degree in Communication, Management & Health from the Universita della Svizzera italiana and a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Public Health from Maastricht University. Prior to her doctoral studies, she conducted qualitative research on gendered understandings of mental health among adolescents and worked on projects focused on food waste reduction and socially just food systems.

Her research interests include political communication, social identity and recognition, gender dynamics, and the emotional influences that shape political attitudes and participation.
