Abstract

This project is interested in attitudes towards political issues in general. It has several objectives: (1) to investigate how attitudes (e.g. political values, personality traits, socio-demographics) influence the selection of political articles; (2) under what circumstances individuals are willing to speak publicly in political discussion forums; and (3) how individuals respond to aggressive and rude arguments in a political debate. To address these questions, we will rely on an online experiment: In the first part, we will observe how political information is selected. In the second part of the study we will test the persuasiveness of counterarguments and their (in)politeness on their opinion on a specific topic and willingness to express it publicly.
