We welcome three new PhD students at the ICMB:
Roman Winkelhahn, Qian'ge Liu and Charlotte Herentrey
Roman will be contributing to the SNSF-funded research project “Feeling left-behind: how lack of social recognition for one’s group influences political information usage and effects”. He graduated from Loughborough University with an MSc in Social Science Research and holds a BA in Journalism Studies from TU Dortmund University. His doctoral research focuses on political information behaviour, group identities and the correlates of perceived social recognition in Switzerland, Germany, France and the UK.
Charlotte will be contributing to the SNSF-funded research project "Feeling left-behind: how lack of social recognition for one's group influences political information usage and effects." She holds a master's degree in Communication, Management & Health from USI Università della Svizzera italiana and a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Public Health from Maastricht University. Her research interests include political communication, social identity and recognition, gender dynamics, and the emotional influences that shape political attitudes and participation.
Qian'ge will be researching in the project "Through a glass, darkly: How to study authoritarian regimes", funded through Franziska Barbara Keller's SNSF Starting Grant. Her primary focus is on extracting social networks from textual data using LLMs. Qian'ge holds a master's degree in Political Science from Sciences Po and bachelor’s degrees in Political Science/Public Administration and English from Shanghai International Studies University. Her research interests include political behavior, conflict, development and quantitative and computational methods.
